Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Skip Wiley pitched professionally from 1989 to 1993, peaking at Double-A.

Undrafted, he began in the Kansas City Royals system, going 5-1 with a 1.05 ERA in 21 appearances for the Eugene Emeralds in 1989. In 1990, he went 7-6 with 18 saves and a 2.30 ERA in 57 games for the Appleton Foxes, leading the Midwest League in games finished with 44 and tying Steve Shifflett for second in the league in appearances, behind Chris Gorton's 59. In 1991, he went 4-2 with 17 saves and a 1.68 ERA in 53 games for the Baseball City Royals. In 1992, he was 8-3 with 5 saves and a 3.14 mark in 49 games between Baseball City and the Memphis Chicks. He joined the Florida Marlins system in 1993, going 1-3 with a 4.99 ERA in 18 games between the Kane County Cougars and High Desert Mavericks.

Overall, Wiley went 25-15 with 41 saves and a 2.48 ERA in 198 games (3 starts). In 316 1/3 innings, he allowed 274 hits and 74 walks (1.100 WHIP), while striking out 253 batters. He was usually one-to-four years older than the average player in the leagues in which he pitched.
