Shuto Ogata has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Ogata was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the first round of the development phase in the 2017 NPB draft; the scout was Kazuhide Sakuyama. He spent most of his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he only pitched one game for the big club in 2020. Ogata had a 0.87 ERA in 8 games for the big club in 2021, but his ERA rose to 5.56 in 9 appearances in 2022. He then notched 16 saves with a 0.98 ERA in 41 appearances in the minors in 2023, and he led the Western League in saves (tied with Keisuke Kobayashi). Ogata pitched 12 games with a 4.00 ERA for the top team that season, and he recorded a 2.31 ERA with 5 holds in 12 relief outings in 2024. He relieved Livan Moinelo in the 7th inning of the 2024 Nippon Series, but he allowed a RBI double to Shugo Maki then retired Yoshi Tsutsugo to end the inning. Ogata surrendered 4 runs, including a homer to Toshiro Miyazaki, in Game 4, and he pitched a shutout inning in Game 5. The Hawks lost to the Yokohama BayStars in 6 games.
