Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Shota Sugiyama played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 2 years.
Sugiyama hit .301 with 9 homers and three Best Nine awards in his college career, and he also won the Triple Crown in the 2012 fall season. He was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 4th round of the 2012 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. Sugiyama recorded a .183/.209/.261 batting line in 67 games in 20215, and he played a career-high 104 games with a .260/.340/.357 batting line in 2016. However, he slumped to .091/.218/.091, and he never reached the big club again before he announced his retirement in 2019.
Overall, Sugiyama hit .213/.284/.291 with 104 hits and 6 homers in 3 seasons in NPB.
