Biographical Information[edit]
Shosuke Doi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Doi signed with the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1956, and he hit .238/.262/.333 in 28 games in his first season. He went 4-for-36 in 1957, and he replaced Reijiro Watanabe as Kokutetsu's starting shortstop in 1958. Doi played 70 games with a .207/.222/.273 that season, and he recorded a .187/.214/.277 batting line in 1959. He played 102 games with a .219/.230/.336 batting line in 1960, and he was traded to the Yomiuri Giants for Masataka Tsuchiya. Doi was 3-for-43 in 1961, and the Giants traded him to the Daimai Orions for Yutaka Sudo. He hit .143/.172/.250 in 1962, and he went 4-for-273 in 97 games in 1963 then he announced his retirement. He then scouted for the Orions, and he was their minor league fielding coach from 1972 to 1975 and manager in 1983. Doi then coached the Lotte Giants of the KBO from 1984 to 1986, and he returned to the Orions as bench coach from 1988 to 1989. He was the bench coach of the Giants in 1990, and he also served as interim manager that season. Doi then went to Taiwan as the batting coach for the Brother Elephants from 1993 to 1996 and for the Kaoping Fala from 1997 to 1999.
Overall, Doi hit .194/.217/.287 with 177 hits and 10 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
