Biographical Information[edit]
Reijiro Watanabe played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Watanabe signed with the Kokutetsu Swallows in 1954, and he hit .275/.323/.405 in 52 games in his first season. He then had a .230/.296/.257 batting line in 1955, but he went 2-for-17 in 1956. Watanabe hit .228/.246/.330 in 1957, and he became Kokutetsu's starting shortstop in 1958. He played 99 games with a .221/.286/.288 batting line, and he recorded a .235/.276/.302 batting line in 1959. However, he lost his spot after Shosuke Doi shined in 1960, and he slumped to .140/.197/.140. Watanabe announced his retirement after the '60 season, and he coached the Swallows from 1961 to 1962.
Overall, Watanabe hit .228/.276/.300 with 262 hits and 7 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
