Biographical Information

Shoji Yasuki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 16 years.

Yasuki was drafted by the Atoms in the 5th round of the 1968 NPB draft, and he had a 3.23 ERA in 34 games in 1969. He recorded a 4.11 ERA in 45 appearances in 1970, and his ERA was 3.22 with a 1-5 record in 42 appearances in 1971. However, Yasuki only pitched 7 games combined in the next three seasons, and he was traded to the Taiheiyo Club Lions for Kunio Fukutomi in 1974. Yasuki went 3-5 with a 4.33 ERA in 1975, but his ERA rose to 5.94 in 16 appearances in 1976. The Lions then traded him with In-chun Baek to the Lotte Orions for Kazuo Hasegawa and Akira Kuramochi, and he went 5-2 with a 3.11 ERA in 1977.

The Okayama native had a 4.28 ERA in 47 appearances in 1978, and he went 2-7 with a 4.68 ERA in 1979. He struggled again in 1980 as he went 7-8 with a 5.32 ERA, and he was 1-9 with a 5.95 ERA in 1981. He pitched 5 games with a 4.50 ERA in 1982 before the Orions sent him to the Chunichi Dragons for Masayoshi Kanai, and his ERA was 2.77 in 26 games in the rest of the season. Yasuki pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings combined in the 1982 Nippon Series Games 1,2 and 4, but he allowed 2 hits to Shinsaku Katahira and Terry Whitfield in Game 6. Tatsuo Komatsu then replaced him, but both runners scored and the Dragons lost to the Seibu Lions in 6 games. He went 4-2 with a 3.69 ERA in 1983, then his ERA rose to 5.57 in 26 appearances in 1984 and he retired.

Overall, Yasuki was 33-51 with a 4.33 ERA, struck out 537 and pitched 928 1/3 innings in 16 seasons in NPB.
