Biographical Information[edit]

Shoji Miyazaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 14 years.

Miyazaki signed with the Toei Flyers in 1962, and he had a 2.42 ERA in 12 games in his first season. He went 4-4 with a 2.97 ERA in 1963, and he had a 4-6 record with a 2.85 ERA in 1964. Miyazaki was placed in the minors in most of the next two seasons, and he only pitched 13 games for the big club. He came back in 1967, and he was 12-7 with a 2.10 ERA. He ranked 2nd in ERA in the Pacific League (.36 behind Mitsuhiro Adachi) and 2nd in appearances (1 behind Toshiaki Moriyasu). Miyazaki slumped to 3-10 with a 4.97 ERA in 1968, and he had a 2.51 ERA in 44 relief outings in 1969. He pitched 47 games with a 3.88 ERA and a 5-6 record in 1970, and he was 5th in appearances (between Akira Kawahara and Adachi). His ERA rose to 6.23 in 11 appearances in 1971, then went 5-5 with a 4.34 ERA in 1972,. Miyazaki had a 4.30 ERA in 17 games in 1973, and he recorded a 3.38 ERA in 17 relief outings in 1974. The Flyers then sent to the Hanshin Tigers but he allowed 4 runs in 4 innings in 1975 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Miyazaki was 38-46 with a 3.42 ERA, struck out 481 and pitched 889 1/3 innings in 14 seasons in NPB.
