Biographical Information[edit]
Shoji Hozan played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Hozan signed with the Kintetsu Buffaloes in 1950, and he played 113 games with 43 errors and a .229/.283/.310 batting line. He set the Pacific League record for most errors in a season as a third baseman (not unusual, since the league was founded that year, but he still held the mark through 2023 and it would seem unlikely to be broken given the drop in errors over time), and he tied Kaoru Betto, Shosei Go and Jungo Igaue for 9th in doubles (23). Hozan then had a .243/.301/.340 batting line with 6 triples in 1951, and he tied Sunao Imakurusu and Kazuhiro Kuroda for 5th in triples. He slumped to .215/.260/.294 in 1952, and he only played one game before he went to the Toei Flyers in 1953. Hozan hit .241/.277/.305 for his new team, and he announced his retirement after he went 1-for-5 in 1954.
Overall, Hozan hit .230/.282/.313 with 266 hits and 10 homers in 5 seasons in NPB.
