Biographical Information

Shinya Sugai has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Sugai was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the third round of the development phase in the 2021 NPB draft; the scout was Hideki Mizusawa. He only pitched 3 games in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2022, then he was 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 2023. Sugai went 3-3 with a 2.72 ERA in the minors in 2024, and he recorded a 5.25 ERA in 8 games for the big club. He got his first career win against the Orix Buffaloes on July 15, and he was the first development starter to get a win in Seibu's history. Sugai joined Seibu's rotation in 2025, and he went 5-5 with a 3.58 ERA.
