Biographical Information

Shinji Komiyama was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 3rd round of the 2003 NPB draft, and he spent his first seven seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 6 at-bats with the big club in that period. He hit .208/.218/.245 in 38 games in 2011, and he finally got some chances after catcher Akihito Fujii was injured in 2012. Komiyama played a career-high 72 games with a .148/.216/.174 batting line, and he led the Central League with a .500 CS percentage. However, he lost his spot after Takeshi Hidaka joined the team, and he only got 18 more at-bats before announced his retirement in 2019.
