Biographical Information[edit]

Shinji Hara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 14 years.

Hara was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 4th round of the 1980 NPB draft, and he only got 32 at-bats with the big club in his first four seasons. He played 72 games as backup second baseman in 1985, and his batting line was .228/.279/.331 in 157 plate appearances. He never got more than 100 plate appearances in a season before he was traded to the Yokohama BayStars in 1994, and he announced his retirement after the 1996 season. Hara coached the Carp from 1996 to 2002, and he was the batting coach for the Uni-President Lions in 2003. The Chunichi Dragons named him their batting coach from 2005 to 2006.

Overall, Hara hit .232/.294/.328 with 119 hits and 8 homers in 14 seasons in NPB.
