Shingo Matsuzaki pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years.
Matsuzaki represented Japan in the 2001 Asia Junior Championship. He was 20-1 with 2 Best Nine awards in the Sendai Big-Six Universities Baseball League, and he helped his college win the 2004 All-Japan University Baseball Championship Series. He was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the first round of the 2005 NPB draft, and he was 0-8 with a 7.67 ERA in 2006. He set the Pacific League record by losing 8 straight games in the rookie year. Matsuzaki then tied Keiji Narita's NPB record by losing 11 straight games since his debut on April 15, 2007, and he finally got his first win on May 18. Matsuzaki went 1-6 with a 5.00 ERA in the '07 season, and he was 1-3 with a 4.87 ERA for the Honolulu Sharks in the winter. He only pitched 2 games in 2009, and he was 1-2 with a 7.13 ERA in 2010. Matsuzaki pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings in 2011, and the Golden Eagles traded him to the Hanshin Tigers for [[Keiji Uezono]. However, Matsuzaki never pitched any games for their big club, and he announced his retirement in 2012.
Overall, Matsuzaki was 2-16 with a 6.04 ERA, struck out 69 and pitched 107 1/3 innings in 5 seasons in the NPB.
