Biographical Information

Shigeyuki Yamaguchi was drafted by the Hanshin Tigers in the 6th round of the 1984 NPB draft, and he hit .197/.232/.227 in 35 games in 1988. He recorded a .175/.227/.300 batting line in 1989, and he was hitless in 13 at-bats in 1990. Yamaguchi improved to .278/.366/.278 in 1991, and he went 2-for-9 in 1992. He only got 5 more at-bats in the next two seasons, and the Tigers released him in 1994. Yamaguchi signed with the Yakult Swallows, and he was mainly used as defensive replacement behind third baseman Hensley Meulens. He was 4-for-20 in 77 games that season, and he played 62 games with a 4-for-14 record in 1996. Yamaguchi then announced his retirement, and he became the coach for Iwakura High School in 2024.

Overall, Yamaguchi hit .202/.291/.246 with 41 hits in 8 seasons in NPB.
