Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeta Kobayashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Kobayashi signed with the Nagoya Kinko in 1937, and he hit .180/.198/.234 in spring season. He collected 12 doubles with a .242/.309/.323 batting line in the fall season, and he tied Masaru Kageura and Yoshio Takahashi for 2nd in the Japanese Professional Baseball League in doubles (1 behind Harris McGalliard). Kobayashi improved to .282/.320/.380 in the 1938 spring season, and he had a .228/.272/.302 batting line in 38 games in the fall season. He was the first player who had more hit-by-pitches then walks (5 to 4) in a season, and it would be 69 years before another player accomplished it (Naoyuki Omura in 2007). Kobayashi played 88 games with a .222/.273/.298 batting line in 1939, and he hit .265/.360/.358 in 90 games in 1940 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Kobayashi hit .239/.300/.320 with 300 hits and 10 homers in 4 seasons in NPB.
