Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeru Hino played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years

Hino signed with the Chunichi Dragons after he went undrafted in the 1967 NPB draft, and he hit .136/.164/.136 in 43 games in 1968. He only got 7 at-bats in 1969, and he had a 2-for-18 record in 1970. Hino had 7 at-bats again in 24 games in 1971, and he went to the Nishitetsu Lions. He played 50 games with a .256/.278/.384 batting line in 1972, then he slumped to .188/.253/.250 in 1973, Hino stayed in the minors in 1974, and he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach for the Lions in 1975 and 1977, and he coached their minors team in 1976. Hino later served as a scout from 1978 to 1980, and he was Seibu's minor league fielding coach from 1982 to 1984 and from 1987 to 1991. He managed them from 1985 to 1986, and he went to the Yokohama BayStars as minor league bench coach in 1998. He managed Yokohama's minors team from 1999 to 2003.

Overall, Hino hit .198/.242/.276 with 51 hits in 6 seasons in NPB, spreading 280 plate appearances over 215 games. A backup infielder, he played primarily at short.
