Biographical Information[edit]

Shigeo Yanagida was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 5th round of the 2005 NPB draft, and he only got 22 at-bats combined in his first five seasons. He went 5-for-24 in 2012, and he was 7-for-32 in 2013 and the Dragons released him. Yanagida signed with the Yokohama BayStars, and he played 74 games with a .273/.326/.443 batting line in 2014. He only had 101 plate appearances, backing up Tony Blanco at 1B, Takehiro Ishikawa at 2B, Noriharu Yamazaki at SS and Aarom Baldiris at 3B. He slumped to .209/.261/.256 in 2015, and he announced his retirement after he went 1-for-21 in 2016. Yanagida later became the minor league batting coach for the BayStars in 2018.

Overall, Yanagida hit .213/.258/.304 with 49 hits in 9 seasons in NPB.
