He was selected by the Samsung Lions in the fourth round of the 2017 KBO draft, and he was 1-for-12 in his rookie year.[1] He was 0-for-2 in 2018 as he mainly stayed in the minors, and he missed the next two seasons due to military service. Kim hit .344/.432/.448 in the minors in 2021, but his batting line fell to .167/.158/.167 with the big club. He then recorded a .191/.292/.333 batting line in 48 games in 2022. The Busan native was on South Korea's roster for the 2022 Asian Games, and he was 1-for-3 against Hong Kong in the opener. He went 0-for-3 against Chinese Taipei, and he had a 0-for-2 record with an error against Thailand. Kim went 0-for-3 again versus the Japanese national team, and he was 2-for-4 against China. In the Gold Medal Game, Kim hit a double against Yu-Min Lin to help South Korea beat Chinese Taipei and win the Gold.[2] Kim also represented South Korea in the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, but he didn't get a single at-bat. South Korea lost due to Makoto Kadowaki's walk-off single. [3]
