Biographical Information[edit]

Seikyoku Masuyama pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Masuyama was drafted by the Taiyo Whales in the 4th round of the 1972 NPB draft, but he refused to sign. He was 29-31 with a 1.65 ERA in college, and he set the Tokyo Metropolitan Area University Baseball League record with 13 career shutouts. The Hanshin Tigers picked him in the first round of the 1976 NPB draft, and he was 3-3 with a 4.04 ERA in 1977. He slumped to 1-10 with a 5.42 ERA in 1978, and he was 1-5 with a 4.73 ERA in 1979. Masuyama only pitched 4 games in 1980, and he improved to 3-3 with a 2.94 ERA in 1981. He was 3-6 with a 4.76 ERA in 1982, but he only pitched 8 more games for their top team in 1986 before he retired after that season.

Overall, Masuyama was 11-27 with a 4.63 ERA, struck out 262 and pitched 414 innings in 7 seasons in NPB.
