Biographical Information

Pitcher Sauryn Lao was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international amateur free agent on November 2, 2015. He was a position player at the time, and played in the Dodgers' system from 2016 to 2022 as a third baseman and first baseman. He topped out in Class A however, and in 2022, he hit just .179 in 20 games, at which point he was about to be released. In his best season, he hit .271 in 61 games with the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League in 2019, with 19 doubles and 9 homers, before being forced to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He resurrected his career by switching to the mound. In 2023, he went 4-0, 3.79 in 34 games at three levels, including a couple of outings at AA. In 2024, in 40 games between the AA Tulsa Drillers and AAA Oklahoma City Baseball Club, he was 2-1, 3.74 with 2 saves and 54 strikeouts in 53 innings. He became a free agent following that season and signed with the Seattle Mariners. He started the 2025 season with the Tacoma Rainiers, making 3 starts and pitching 9 innings, before being called up to Seattle. In his big league debut on April 22nd, he pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief against the Boston Red Sox, allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits.
