Biographical Information[edit]
Although Sam Brown was not the first-string catcher in either 1906 or 1907 for the Boston Beaneaters, he got into a lot of games each season. He hit around .200 each year, but then the first-string catcher, Tom Needham, was also a bad hitter. Brown also filled in quite a bit in the outfield and at third base in 1906. He filled in as an umpire for one game in 1907. After he left the majors, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1908.
