Biographical Information[edit]
Ryan Prager has pitched in the minors and for the Israeli national team.
He was 2-1 with a 0.77 ERA and 35 K in 18 IP as a high school junior and 9-2 with a 0.44 ERA as a senior, striking out a school-record 136 and walking 6 in 63 innings; he threw two no-hitters, one of them a perfect game. [1] He went 1-4 with a 5.16 ERA as a college freshman then was redshirted due to injury in 2023. [2] He had a 9-1, 2.95 record with 124 whiffs to 20 walks in 97 2/3 innings in 2024. He tied for 4th in the Southeastern Conference in wins and was 4th in strikeouts (between A.J. Causey and Jurrangelo Cijntje. The Los Angeles Angels took him in the third round of the 2024 amateur draft, the #81 overall pick, but he did not sign (he was the only pick that round who did not sign).
Prager fell to 4-4, 4.21 in '25. He dropped to the 9th round of the 2025 amateur draft, when the Cleveland Guardians selected him; the scout was Brett Stephenson. [3] Making his pro debut with the Lynchburg Hillcats, he struck out 7 and had a 4.15 ERA in 4 1/3 IP that summer. He joined Israel for the 2026 World Baseball Classic; like most of the team, he was from the US, with only Assaf Lowengart actually being from Israel. He got the tough start against the Dominican national team, which led the event in OPS. He started off okay by going 1-2-3 against Fernando Tatis Jr., Ketel Marte and Juan Soto. He walked Manny Machado to open the second, retired Junior Caminero, walked Carlos Santana and Oneil Cruz then Agustín Ramírez struck out. That was his last out, though, as he walked Geraldo Perdomo to force in a run then Tatis cracked a grand slam. Zack Weiss took over and Prager took the loss to Brayan Bello. He tied Ben Simon for Israel's highest ERA in the event. [4]
