Biographical Information[edit]
Ruderly Manuel played for the Netherlands Antilles in the 2007 Kingdom Games. In the 2008 Curacao league, he was 2-1 with a 4.17 ERA for the Groot Kwartier Stars Mangusa. He had a 2-1, 3.62 record for the 2009 Stars and led the league with 53 strikeouts in 38 2/3 IP. He played for the Antilles in the 2010 South American Games, 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games (taking the loss against Mexico by allowing a run in the 9th) and 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament (3.68 ERA).
Manuel signed with Sparta/Feyenoord as part of a huge Antillean infusion to the club in 2011. He debuted on April 16, relieving Gregory Gustina in the 6th with two outs. He got Raily Legito on a fly to end the inning. In the 7th, though, he gave up three straight hits (to Jeffrey Arends, Dwayne Kemp and Rien Vernooij) before getting an out. He allowed two more hits after that for a 3-run inning to make it 10-0; the game then ended due to the mercy rule. He went 4-5 with a 3.70 ERA for the season, as his team's #2 starter after Bobby Carrington.
For 2012, he signed with Italy's Godo Knights. He only pitched one game, on March 31. He started against Grosseto and tossed two shutout innings before surrendering five runs in the third. He allowed five hits and five walks in his three innings before getting yanked; he wound up taking the loss. He then left the team before he could pitch again, due to the death of his brother, returning to his native Netherlands Antilles. He returned to the club in mid-May. He finished 1-3 with a 6.86 ERA in the 2012 Italian Baseball League. He was 0-2 with a 6.48 ERA for Curacao in the 2013 World Port Tournament, leading in losses.
He lost to Diegomar Markwell of the Dutch national team in the 2016 Haarlem Baseball Week. He was part of the Netherlands' designated pitcher pool for the 2017 World Baseball Classic but was not activated. He had a 2.84 ERA for Curacao in the 2017 World Port Tournament, finishing 4th in IP (12 2/3) and opponent average (.190). He lost to Japan's Yusaku Miura and Taiwan's Chun-Chang Su in the 2019 World Port Tournament, posting a 5.73 ERA. He tied Yi-Sheng Chu for the loss lead and his 11 IP trailed only Miura.
The veteran struggled in a loss to Cuba in the 2021 Caribbean Baseball Cup but pitched Curacao to victory in the title game, giving the country its first title in the event. He was 0-2 with a 4.38 ERA in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, losing to Italy's Alex Bassani and the Netherlands' Shairon Martis, the latter in the championship contest. He tied Christian Scafidi and Cade Kuehler for the event lead in losses, tied Riku Kikuchi for 7th in IP (8) and allowed the most runs (8, one more than Yomel Rivera).
Curacao made the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, their first time doing so since separating out from the Antilles as a whole. Manuel made one start and was very good, going four shutout innings (3 H, 2 BB, 2 K) against Venezuela but was matched by Ivan Andueza. Cerilio Soleana relieved; Curacao wound up the victors, 4-3. He had the most innings of any Curacao hurler in the event who had a 0.00 ERA. He had a 3.82 ERA in the 2023 Caribbean Baseball Cup.
