Biographical Information[edit]
In his first professional season in 1913, Rube Schauer won 20 games pitching for the Class C Superior Red Sox of the Northern League, a result that earned him a late season call-up to the National League champion New York Giants (who had purchased Schauer from the Red Sox earlier that season). Schauer played sparingly in his four seasons in New York, pitching only 60 games and fewer than 200 innings, mostly in relief. He played his final major league season in the American League in 1917, logging 215 innings for the last place Philadelphia Athletics and posting a 7-16 record with a 3.14 ERA.
Schauer lost his first 12 complete games, the longest such streak to begin a Modern Era career. His .125 W-L% (2-14) in complete games is the second lowest career mark among Modern Era pitchers with 15 or more complete games, bettering only Joe Harris's .080 (2-23).
