Biographical Information[edit]
Roy Clark was the scouting director for the Atlanta Braves from 2000 to 2009. He was then the Washington Nationals' assistant general manager and vice president of player personnel.
He had previously played in the Seattle Mariners organization from 1979 to 1982. Though he hit .335 his first year and spent two of his four seasons at Triple-A, he never reached the majors. He hit .289/.361/.383 in 402 games. When rosters expanded in September 1982, the Mariners called up 3 pitchers and no infielders. Clark sensed something was up and returned to Chapel Hill and finished his degree that winter. He also talked to Mariners' management about his future. When told that his future was as a utility player in AAA, he asked for a trade or release. The Mariners granted his release. When interviewed in early 1983, Clark commented "They have a stockpile of young players they think are going to be stars, somebody below me they thought was something special...." [1] Harold Reynolds had spent 1982 at second base for the Lynn Sailors and made his debut in September 1983.
