Roger Barberena Garay
Biographical Information[edit]
Roger Barberena was born in Nicaragua and moved to El Salvador at age 24. He was with the Salvadoran national team in the 1972 Amateur World Series, rapping 16 hits in their 14 games. [1] In the 1974 Central American and Caribbean Games, he hit .179/.303/.179 with 3 runs and one RBI in 9 games, fielding .792 at 3B and .944 at C. Among the regular third basemen in the Games, only Burnett Thomas had a lower fielding percentage. [2] He played second mainly in Nicaragua but also did catch there. After retiring as a player in 1998, he ran the Salvadoran baseball and softball programs (guiding them to two Gold Medals in Central American Games in women's softball) as well as the soccer federation. [3] He also scouted for the Chicago White Sox, Montréal Expos and Atlanta Braves for 12 years. [4]
