Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Ray Delgado, also known as Raynel Delgado was born in Cuba but grew up in south Florida. He was drafted out of high school by the Cleveland Indians in the 6th round of the 2018 amateur draft.
He had a long minor league apprenticeship that saw him play in three different organizations: first the Indians and Cleveland Guardians from 2018 to 2024, the last two of these seasons in AAA, then the Milwaukee Brewers in 2025 and the Tampa Bay Rays at the start of 2026. His last two changes of organization had come as a minor league free agent, as he was looking for an opportunity to move from AAA to the Show, an opportunity that finally came after the Houston Astros purchased his contract from the Rays on June 10, 2026. He was called up to Houston two days later, replacing Shay Whitcomb on the roster and made his debut on June 14th, starting at third base against the Kansas City Royals. In his debut, he went 1 for 3 in a 4-0 loss.
Delgado hit well in AAA, but his lack of power was his main drawback. In 2024, he batted .275 in 93 games for the Columbus Clippers, but with only 9 homers, and in 2025 he was at .281 in 125 games for the Nashville Sounds, hitting 5 homers. Before being purchased by Houston, he was hitting .250 with 3 homers in 61 games for the Durham Bulls.
