Biographical Information[edit]
Ralph Head pitched 20 years in professional ball, most notably with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1923 and the Fort Worth Panthers in 1924 and 1925. The two Panther teams each won over 100 games. Head finished his professional career in 1932 with the Norfolk Tars.
He attended the University of Georgia and played on the school's football team, breaking three ribs in his first game as a freshman, but never on its baseball team.
He is one of two major leaguers (through 2007) with the last name Head, the other being Ed Head.
