Biographical Information[edit]

Ralf Schinko was a catcher for the German national team.

He was with Germany for the 1979 European Junior Championship (1 for 2, R, RBI) and 1981 European Junior Championship (.286/.412/.286). In the 1984 B-Level European Championship, he was 3 for 13 with 3 runs and a RBI for Germany. He was 3-for-6 with two doubles, a homer, 3 runs, a walk, two steals, six runs and a RBI when Germany won the 1986 B-Level European Championship to advance to the 1987 European Championship. He was 2-for-12 with a double, walk, two runs and a RBI in the 1987 Euros. He was 3-for-9 with two walks and a RBI during the 1989 European Championship. He hit .308/.500/.462 with 8 runs and 3 RBI in 4 games in the 1990 B-Level European Championship and was 3-for-7 with walks when Germany won the 1992 B-Level European Championship to get a spot in the 1993 European Championship. Overall, he had hit .300/.408/.433 with 20 runs and 9 RBI in 18 games for the senior national team. Through 2010, he was 14th in team history in average (between Dominik Wulf and Simon Gühring), 8th in OBP (between Stephan Jäger and Sascha Lutz) and 5th with 11 steals.

Bundesliga-1 stats are unavailable online (as of 7/22/2025) prior to 1994, by which point he was past his peak. It is known that he was the Finals MVP in 1989. With the 1994 Mannheim Tornados, he produced at a .333/.467/.417 clip with 25 runs in 19 games. He fell to .244/.354/.244 in 1995 and .059/.333/.059 in 1996 to end his career.
