Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Phil Shartzer spent nine years in the minor leagues, playing from 1954 to 1962. He played in the Cincinnati Reds system from 1954 to 1961, the Minnesota Twins system in 1961 and the Houston Colt .45s system in 1962. He reached Triple-A in 1958, 1961 and 1962.
In his first year at Triple-A, he batted .237/.302/.336 with seven home runs and 50 RBI in 138 games for the Seattle Rainiers. With the AAA Indianapolis Indians in 1961, he hit .263/.333/.289 in 15 games -- he spent most of the year with the Double-A Nashville Volunteers. In 71 games with the Oklahoma City 89ers in 1962, he hit .190/.258/.256.
In 3,632 career at-bats, he batted .246.
