Biographical Information[edit]

Peyton Lewis pitched professionally from 1999 to 2001, peaking at Single-A. He was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks after infielder Scott Hairston. In his debut campaign, he went 2-1 with a 1.25 mark in 17 games (1 start) between the St. Catharines Stompers and Hagerstown Suns; he had 59 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings. In 2000, he went 3-7 with 11 saves and a 3.53 ERA in 43 relief appearances between three clubs. He joined the Chicago Cubs system at some point in the season. In 2001, he was 2-2 with a 4.75 ERA in 15 games (10 starts) for the independent Lincoln Saltdogs; he had 65 Ks in 60 2/3 innings.

Overall, Lewis went 7-10 with a 3.38 ERA in 75 games (11 starts). In 162 2/3 innings, he allowed 146 hits and 70 walks (1.328 WHIP), while striking out 180 batters.
