Biographical Information

Pete Tracy was the first player from Fordham University to come to the major leagues, at a time when it was still called "St. John's College". He appeared on the New York Mutuals in 1876. Fred Treacy was a regular on that team, and the two were long assumed to be brothers, but they were not related. He did have a ballplaying brother named James who played with him at St. John's and on various amateur teams.

He was listed under various spellings of his last name, including Treacy and Tracey; his supposed kinship with Fred Treacy likely influenced these spellings. However, the spelling "Tracy" can be found on his death certificate and in his obituary, so it is likely the one he used day-to-day.
