Biographical Information[edit]
Perry Bellis played for the Hazleton Pugilists of the Middle States League in 1889. The team put up a 10-25 record that year. According to SABR member Tony Kissel, Bellis played primarily as a first baseman and also played left field as well. He was still playing baseball in Hazleton, PA in 1890. The Plain Speaker reported that he was going to be playing catcher against the Lehighton team on May 10th, and spelled his name "Belles."
In 1892, he got married to a woman named Beatrice Brinton and they had at least 12 children, a number of whom died in infancy. It would seem as though Bellis lived his entire life in Northampton, PA.
