Biographical Information[edit]

Otto Moore was a prominent baseball player at Oregon Agricultural College, now Oregon State, in Corvallis, where he captained the team and served as its coach during the 1909 season.[1][2][3]

Moore later played professional baseball with the Montesano Farmers, Portland Pippins, Portland Beavers, and Portland Colts.[4][5] In 1910, while playing second base for Montesano in the Washington State League, he was struck in the head by a pitched ball thrown by Harold Cross of the Aberdeen Black Cats. Moore remained unconscious for more than twenty hours, and early reports held grave fears for his recovery, but he soon improved and was expected back in the lineup within days.[4][6][7]

By 1928, he was living in Montesano. That June, after stopping to give a ride to a hitchhiker, he was attacked in an attempted holdup, grappled with the man, and was struck on the head before the assailant fled.[8]
