Biographical Information[edit]

Osamu Sasaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years

Sasaki was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes and Nankai Hawks in the first round of the 1981 NPB draft, and the Buffaloes won the lottery for the rights to him. He went 3-6 with a 5.00 ERA in 1985, then he was 8-6 with a 4.46 ERA in 1986. Sasaki had a 3-8 record with a 4.82 ERA in 1987, but his ERA rose to 7.56 in 11 games in 1988. Sasaki struggled again in 1989 as his ERA was 5.61 in 20 games, then he returned to the rotation and he was 8-7 with a 4.36 ERA. He had his career year in 1991, and he went 10-4 with a 3.21 ERA. Sasaki was 8th in ERA in the Pacific League, between Atsunori Itoh and Yukihiko Yamaoki. He was 1-1 with a 4.10 ERA in 1992, and he only pitched 7 more games for the top team before he announced his retirement in 1994. He was the pitching coach for the Orix Buffaloes in 2009.

Overall, Sasaki was 36-38 with a 4.40 ERA, struck out 273 and pitched 723 1/3 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
