Biographical Information[edit]

Osamu Goto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years. He was the only NPB player who played for eight different teams.

Goto signed with the Shochiku Robins in 1952, but he didn't reach the big club and he was released by the Taiyo-Shochiku Robins in 1954. The Toei Flyers then signed him, and he had a 5.28 ERA in 5 games in 1955. The Flyers then requested him to convert to a batter, but Goto refused and he was released. The Daiei Stars signed him, and he was 6-12 with a 3.43 ERA un 1956. However, the Stars then merged with the Takahashi Unions, and they released plenty of players included Goto. He signed with the Yomiuri Giants, and he went 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 1957. Goto struggled in 1958 as he allowed 3 runs in 2 1/3 innings, and he was released again.

The Kintetsu Buffaloes picked him up, and Goto went 3-2 with a 3.99 ERA in 1959. He was 1-4 with a 4.94 ERA in 1960, and the Buffaloes released him. He then signed with the Nankai Hawks, and he went 5-6 with a 3.39 ERA in 1961. He surrendered 2 runs in 2 innings in the 1961 Nippon Series Game 2, and the Giants beat the Hawks in 6 games. Goto's ERA rose to 7.27 in 7 appearances in 1962, and he was released again. He then went to the Nishitetsu Lions, and he was 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 1963 and he retired.

Overall, Goto was 18-31 with a 3.81 ERA, struck out 332 and pitched 455 1/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
