Biographical Information[edit]

Nobumasa Fukuda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 15 years.

Fukuda was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 3rd round of the high school phase in the 2005 NPB draft, and he spent his first 8 seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 115 at-bats combined with the big club. Fukuda hit .243/.297/.408 in 79 games in 2015 (primarily backing up Masahiko Morino at first base) and he crushed 10 homers with a .267/.346/.407 batting line in 2016. He then blasted a career-high 18 homers with a .271/.328/.515 batting line in 2017, accomplishing that in only 299 AB as he backed up Dayán Viciedo at 1B and Naomichi Donoue at 3B.

Winning the starting job at third base, he extended his solid performance in 2018 as he hit .261/.322/.405 with 13 homers. Fukuda had his career year in 2019, and he crushed 18 homers with a .287/.358/.519 batting line. however, he only got 7 homers with a .246/.315/.390 batting line in 2020, and he hit .244/.305/.419 with 8 homers in 2021. He went 6-for-28 in 2022, and he announced his retirement after having a 3-for-20 record in 2023. The Dragons named him their minor league batting coach in 2024.

Overall, Fukuda hit .257/.321/.432 with 546 hits and 84 homers in 15 seasons in NPB.
