Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Nate Espy played in the minor leagues from 1998 to 2007. He was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 18th round of the 1998 amateur draft. He remained in the Phillies system through 2003 before playing in the St. Louis Cardinals (2004), Seattle Mariners (2005) and Oakland Athletics (2006) systems, as well as the independent leagues in 2007.

Despite having good power and on-base ability, as well as decent speed, Espy never reached the major leagues and played at Triple A only briefly (2006). He hit 20+ homers twice, in 2000 and in his final season, 2007. In fact, he hit less than 10 dingers only once, in 2003 (when he had 9). His 20-dinger seasons were perhaps the best of his career, as he hit .312/.439/.531 with 21 homers, 87 RBI and 101 walks in 130 games for the Piedmont Boll Weevils in 2000 and .316/.419/.547 with 22 homers, 90 RBI and 81 walks in 119 games for the independent York Revolution in 2007. In 1,136 games over ten pro seasons, he slashed .286/.393/.466 with 136 home runs, 614 RBI and 67 stolen bases.
