Biographical Information[edit]
Moritz Astner has been on the Austrian national team alongside brother Felix Astner. Their father also played baseball in Austria while their mother and sister played softball. [1]
He was born with a deformed left hand; he used a catcher's strap connected to his glove and wrapped around his wrist to help compensate in the field. [2] Debuting in Austria's top league in 2024, the teenager hit .281/.378/.313 for the Wiener Neustadt Diving Ducks. [3] He was 1 for 3 in the 2024 European Cup. [4] In the 2024 U18 European Championship, he was 1 for 5 with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. [5]
In 2025, he was at .300/.380/.417 and tied for 9th in the Bundesliga with 9 steals. [6] He was 0 for 9 with a walk, hit-by-pitch, steal and two runs for the Diving Ducks in the 2025 European Cup. [7] He batted .273/.385/.364 in the 2025 U23 European Championship. [8] In the 2025 European Championship, he pinch-ran for Moritz Scheicher one game and was a late-game substitute in left another. He did not bat. [9]
