Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever Mike Wagner pitched in the minor leagues from 2004 to 2008. Though he pitched briefly at Triple-A (one game), he never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2003 amateur draft, a few picks after catcher A.J. Ellis and a couple ahead of future Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan. His first professional season, 2004, he went 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 16 games (5 starts) between the GCL Yankees and Staten Island Yankees. In 2005, he was 0-1 with a 1.59 mark in 19 appearances for Staten Island, averaging more than a K per inning. He moved to the independent ranks in 2006, going 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA in 37 games for the Northern League's Winnipeg Goldeyes. He joined the Seattle Mariners system for 2007, playing for three teams and going 4-2, 4.65 in 41 games. He made a sole appearance for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, the only Triple-A action of his career. In 2008, his final season, he went 7-5 with a 4.79 ERA in 51 games (1 start) for the High Desert Mavericks.

Overall, Wagner went 12-10 with a 3.67 ERA in 164 games (6 starts). In 221 innings, he allowed 231 hits and 68 walks (1.353 WHIP), while striking out 190 batters.
