Biographical Information

Infielder Mike Taylor played in the Toronto Blue Jays system from 1988 to 1992, peaking at Double-A.

He was drafted twice. He was initially taken by the Cincinnati Reds in the 36th round of the 1986 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Scott Erickson, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Blue Jays in the 53rd round of the 1987 amateur draft, a couple picks after pitcher Paul Miller, and inked a contract. He never hit better than .228 in a season in which he played any substantial time. In 1992, he converted to pitching, going 2-6 with a 3.81 ERA in 13 games (8 starts) between the GCL Blue Jays, Medicine Hat Blue Jays and Knoxville Blue Jays. At the plate, he hit .207/.327/.242 with 2 home runs, 63 RBI and 27 steals in 308 games.

He later became an assistant coach at the college level. He worked at Rice University from 2001 to 2012, University of Houston from 2014 to 2015, Baylor University from 2016 to 2022 and University of Texas-Arlington (2023-).
