Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Michael Beams played in the Houston Astros (1986-1990) and Boston Red Sox (1991-1993) systems, peaking at Double-A. He was taken by Houston in the 10th round of the 1986 amateur draft (the 250th pick overall), one selection after utilityman Lance Blankenship. He was signed by scout Joe Pittman. He hit over .250 only twice in his career, but showed decent pop, hitting as many as 15 home runs in season -- with the Asheville Tourists in 1989. In 1990, while with the Osceola Astros, he tied Javier Ocasio for the Florida State League lead in hit by pitches with 12. He was a regular face with the New Britain Red Sox, spending all of 1991 to 1993 -- his entire tenure in Boston's system -- with them.

Overall, Beams hit .233/.325/.369 with 49 home runs, 300 RBI and 56 steals in 631 games over 8 seasons.
