A Media Guide is a small book or booklet published by a team that includes biographical profiles of its players and staff as well as statistics, records and other similar information. The primary target audience is writers and broadcasters covering the team (hence its name), but they are usually also available to fans wishing to buy a copy.
The first media guide was published by the Chicago White Sox in 1946. The development of the internet has made media guides less necessary, as most of the information they contain is available on the team's website. As of 2016, they still are produced annually with 300 or more pages of information on the team, in a more organized and sometimes more detailed fashion than on the websites; since the late 2000s, they have been available on MLB.com for members of the media to access.
