Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher McCade Brown had an unenviable assignment in his major league debut for the Colorado Rockies on August 24, 2025, as he was matched up against Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates, arguably the best pitcher in the National League. There was no Cinderella story: McCade gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 3 2/3 innings while Skenes pitched one his trademark dominant games, and Brown was charged with a 4-0 loss. Overall, he went 0-5, 7.36 in 7 starts for a Rockies team that lost 119 games that season.
Brown was a 3rd-round choice by the Rockies in the 2021 amateur draft, out of Indiana University. He missed all of 2023 after undergoing Tommy John surgery and did not get back to playing a full season until 2025, the year of his debut. He started that season in High-A with the Spokane Indians of the Northwest League, pitching 33 2/3 innings in 9 starts with no decisions but an ERA of 1.60, before being promoted to the AA Hartford Yard Goats on May 30th. In 11 starts in the Eastern League, he went 4-2, 3.14 to prompt the Rockies to have him make his debut while skipping AAA altogether.
