Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Malott attended Occidental College where he graduated with his B.A. in Economics in 2014. He was a starting pitcher for the Tigers and helped the program to its best record in over 20 years. In his career at Occidental, he posted a 3.86 ERA over 100 1/3 innings. In his best campaign, Malott went 5-3 as a sophomore with a 3.58 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. As a side note, former President Barack Obama also attended Occidental.

After graduating from college, Malott returned to Canyon Crest Academy as the Head Freshman Coach for the 2015 season. He was promoted to Varsity Pitching Coach the following year and stayed in that position through the 2019 season and possibly through 2021. In 2020, Malott also became the Co-Founder and Director of Player Development for the Objective Baseball training facility.

The Detroit Tigers hired Malott as development coach for the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2022. He was bench coach of the Erie SeaWolves in 2023-2024 when the SeaWolves won back-to-back Eastern League championships. Malott served as the hitting coach of the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2025-2026.
