Biographical Information[edit]

Matt Klinker pitched in the Cincinnati Reds system from 2007 to 2011. He spent parts of three seasons at Triple-A, but never ascended to the majors.

He was taken by the Reds in the 15th round of the 2007 amateur draft, a few picks ahead of pitcher C.J. Fick. He was signed by scout Steve Kring. After a middling initial campaign, he had two solid seasons with ERAs of 3.81 and 3.58, respectively. In the latter campaign, 2009, he reached Triple-A for the first time, going 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 5 starts for the Louisville Bats; he was 7-6 on the year as a whole, striking out 112 in 108 innings of work. He was 11-10 in 28 games (27 starts) between three clubs in 2010 (making the Southern League Mid-Season All-Star team), before going 9-8, 5.50 in his final campaign. He tied Charles Brewer, Randall Delgado and Terry Doyle for the Southern League lead in complete games his final season, with 2.

He also spent time in the Venezuelan Winter League and Mexican Pacific Winter League.

In affiliated ball, he went 37-32 with a 4.21 ERA in 109 games (91 starts). In 562 innings, he allowed 589 hits and 159 walks (1.331 WHIP), while striking out 464 batters. He was 9-7 with a 5.07 ERA in 21 games (18 starts) at Triple-A.
