Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Matt Fields played professionally from 2005 to 2016. He hit over 200 home runs professionally.

He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 44th round of the 2004 amateur draft out of high school. He was signed by scout Paul Kirsch and began his professional career the next year.

The slugger played in the Devil Rays/Rays system through 2010 and hit 15 or more home runs a year from 2007 to 2010. In 2011, he played for the independent Southern Illinois Miners, where he hit 17 dingers, and in 2012, he hit 26 home runs split between the Miners and the Wilmington Blue Rocks in the Kansas City Royals system. In 2013, he slugged 31 home runs and had 87 RBI in 131 games for the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Naturals, despite batting only .222 with 181 strikeouts. He won the MILB Joe Bauman Home Run Award for Double-A and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star. He began 2014 with the Triple-A Omaha Royals, his first taste of that level in his 10th year as a pro. On the year, he hit .262/.326/.514 with 28 home runs and 81 RBI in 125 games. He returned to the level in 2015, struggled, and later played indy ball to wrap up his career.

Overall, he hit .243/.308/.442 with 164 home runs, 561 RBI and 1,194 Ks in 957 games over 10 years in affiliated ball. At all levels, including winter league play, he hit .244/.312/.450 with 208 home runs, 692 RBI and 1,454 RBI in 1,160 games over 12 seasons.

He is the brother of Roemon Fields.
