Biographical Information[edit]
Masayuki Kobayashi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.
Kobayashi was drafted by the Hiroshima Carp in the 5th round of the 1969 NPB draft, and he hit .159/.209/.206 in 1971 after spending a year in the minors. His batting line was .184/.296/.211 in 1972, and he only got 2 at-bats in 1973. Kobayashi hit .231/.231/.308 in 30 games in 1974, and he announced his retirement. He later served as fielding coach for the Carp's minor league team from 1976 to 1977 and assistant fielding coach in 1981. He was their fielding coach from 1982 to 1983, assistant batting coach from 1984 to 1985 and batting coach in 1986. Kobayashi jumped to the Taiyo Whales with manager Takeshi Koba in 1987, and he was their fielding coach until he left in 1990. He went to the Daiei Hawks as assistant coach from 1991 to 1992, and he became the fielding coach for the Wei Chuan Dragons in 1994 and the Hanshin Tigers in 1996. He then coached Chiba University of Commerce from 2010 to 2020.
Overall, Kobayashi hit .172/.238/.216 with 20 hits in 4 seasons in NPB.
