Biographical Information

Masayoshi Tsukada was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 3rd round of the 2011 NPB draft, but he didn't reach the top team in his first two seasons. He hit .313/.402/.499 with 15 homers in 2014, and he led the Western League with 70 RBI and .402 OBP (.006 ahead of Taisei Makihara). He was second in average (.061 behind Makihara) and 2nd in slugging. Tsukada also went 0-for-3 with the big club, and he hit .364/.434/.477 in 26 games for the Gigantes de Carolina in the winter; his four triples led the Puerto Rican League. Tsukada then had a .281/.373/.424 batting line in the minors in 2015, and he was 2-for-12 with the major league team. He had a .305/.424/.432 batting line and won the batting title of the minors in 2016, but he only got one at-bat for the top team. For the batting title, he edged out Kentaro Inomoto, .30466 to .30462. He easily led the WL in OBP (.054 ahead of Inomoto) while trailing only Naomasa Yokawa and Inomoto in slugging. Tsukada then went 4-for-26 in 2017, and he was 10-for-37 in 2018. He had a 4-for-18 record in 2019, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Tsukada hit .206/.297/.454 with 20 hits in 6 seasons in NPB.
