Biographical Information[edit]
Masayoshi Miwa played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.
Miwa played for the Kagawa Olive Guyners from 2005 to 2007, and he set the Kyushu-Shikoku Island League record with 40 steals in a season in 2007. He was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 6th round of the 2007 NPB draft, and he was the first player from the Kyushu-Shikoku Island League to be selected in the NPB draft. Miwa hit .283/.349/.296 with 24 steals in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2008, and he collected 36 steals with a .321/.397/.341 batting line in 2009. He led the Eastern League in steals, and he was 3rd in batting (between Sho Nakata and Yuki Takamori). Miwa also played 3 games for the big club.
The Yamaguchi native was 3-for-16 in 2010, and he went 1-for-13 in 54 games in 2011 mainly as pinch-runner (15 R, 16 PA). Miwa went 8-for-29 in 2012, and he had a .333/.412/.333 batting line in 75 games (56 PA, 6-for-6 in SB) in 2013. He had a 5-for-22 record in 2014, and he played a career-high 87 games (102 PA) with ,a .233/.302/.291 batting line in 2015. Miwa then went 8-for-33 in 2016, but he only got 4 at-bats for the big club in 2017. He went 2-for-17 in 2018, and he announced his retirement in 2019.
Overall, Miwa hit .236/.296/.270 with 62 hits in 10 seasons in NPB. he had 73 runs and 322 plate appearances in 418 games, going 23-for-30 in steals, and played regularly in the outfield and the infield; he just didn't bat much.
