Biographical Information[edit]
Masatoshi Nakahara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.
Nakahara was drafted by the Toei Flyers in the 5th round of the 1968 NPB draft, and he spent his first two seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 51 at-bats combined for the big club. He crushed 4 homers with a .201/.250/.302 batting line in 1971, and he was 3rd in triples in the Pacific League (4, 1 behind Yutaka Fukumoto and Hiroshi Takahashi). However, he lost his third base spot after Takahashi joined the team in 1972, and he went 4-for-40 that season. Nakahara was 20-for-75 in 1973, and he played 81 games with a .205/.258/.229 batting line in 1974.
The Kagoshima native won the competition for the starting shortstop spot with Mitsuo Sugano and Yoshiyuki Suenaga in 1975, and he batted .228/.262/.245 that season. Nakahara recorded a .244/.288/.294 batting line in 1976, but he slumped to .198/.249/.246 in 1977 and Masaru Tomita took his spot. He played 76 games with a .282/.325/.346 batting line in 1978, and he went 4-for-24 in 1979. Nakahara only got 4 at-bats in 1980, and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Nakahara hit .215/.263/.268 with 286 hits and 7 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
